30 Minutes, just for me. {Series} Week 1

30 Minute Hit

30 Minute Hit New Westminster

So I’ve made it through my first week at 30 Minute Hit  and I’m still enjoying it!

I made it in 4 times over the past week and I’m feeling phenomenal! The first session that I went to was tough. Starting out with a new fitness routine, your body starts using muscles that you obviously haven’t been paying too much attention too before.

My arms, calves, and hamstrings were screaming the most, but settled into it after my second session. The more I went, the easier it became. I also had the privilege of meeting more of the trainers, who were just as fantastic and supportive as Stacey has been. My sister has even signed up for the FREE Trial Session.

Kick the *&%! out of Cancer

Throughout the month of October, members are invited to participate, as 30 Minute Hit Kicks the *&%! Out of Cancer , honoring or remembering their mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, friend etc. With every jab, cross, front kick and uppercut, their members will help to uncover the cure for women’s cancer through the number of times they complete the 30 Minute Hit Circuit in the month of October.

I will be sporting pink throughout the month honoring my own friends and family who have suffered this terrible disease.

Mom’s Night In

Mom's Night Out

Mom’s Night Out

Every Mommy needs a night of once in awhile. Usually a group of ladies will go out for dinner and drinks and have to make a reservation at a busy, nosy restaurant where being able to have a conversation with everyone, can be a bit difficult.

Why not make your next “Mom’s Night Out”, be a “Girl’s Night In”?

Girls Night In

This past weekend, I had Ultimate Mobile Spa, come to my home and provide manicures and pedicures to group of well deserving ladies. We each brought a favourite appetizer to share with the group and a bottle of wine or whatever drink we chose. There was an abundance of delicious nibblies and no one left hungry.

The spa services were great and reasonably priced. My feet are very happy with the pedicure that I treated them to.

It was a very relaxing environment, the ambiance was great, we were all in the same room and were able to carry on conversations with each other as we noshed and topped up our drinks.

So, next time you’re planning a get together with the BFF’s, why not have it at home and make it a more relaxing event?  Tell hubby to stay upstairs with the kiddos and get them into bed, or maybe you have an Amenities Room in your building where you can be totally undisturbed:)

First Day Of Preschool!

20130910-072756.jpg

1st day of preschool!

We had had a lazy summer where we’d sleep in past 8am, so this morning, we had to be up by 7am to allow enough time to get the grumpies out, eat breakfast, get ready and get to school on time. When we arrived, she found the cubby hole with her name on it. She did. Not Mom and Dad, but her! She recognized her own name! Insert Proud Parent Moment here. We put her gear in there and got her into her brand new indoor shoes that lit up when you banged them. Entering the classroom, she B-lined it right to the sandbox and started playing with the little girl already at the station. I checked with her teacher to see if there was anything that we were to do and she told us “No.” So we went over to her, gave her hugs and kisses, told her to have a good day and we’d be back to get her soon. She said OK and went back to playing. Easy peasey, lemon squeezy, right? Well, as soon as we got out the door, my eyes started to fill up and tears started to flow. They weren’t sad tears, but proud tears. I realized at that point, that the work I had done over the past 4 years preparing our little girl to be independent, get along with others, and OK with us not being there with her, was now coming to fruition.

When her little brother was born last year, she had a hard time adjusting to having to share Mommy and Daddy with someone else. In her eyes, she now had competition for our affection and attention. Not being the centre of attention herself anymore, was now grounds for a whole new attitude. Temper tantrums, picking on her brother, not sharing, and being impatient, were some new challenges that we had to endure. And our daily schedule had to revolve around her little brothers’s time schedule.

Well now is her time!

This amazing young lady has taken her first steps at independence. She gets to be on her own in a new and stimulating environment, make new friends and she’ll learn some new stuff that I can’t show her.

When I came back to pick her up, I arrived a little early and was able to observe her interacting in the group. She was totally engaged and including the rest of the class. When it was time to go, she saw me and came and gave me a huge hug and told me what fun she had had at school. I could tell from the green sand stuck to her face and the purple marker under her nose, that there was no doubt that she had fun. Unfortunately her snack bag had barely been touched, but when you’re that busy, who has time to eat! A bad habit I formed when I was still working.

New friend at the sandbox.

So here we are, our little girl growing up right before our eyes. Little Miss Independent has started going to school and as my husband keeps telling me, “She couldn’t have done it without you.”

Cue steamy eyes now.

What Autumn Means to Me.

Autumn leaves.

I love the Fall, actually, I look forward to it. My Birthday is in the Fall and so is our anniversary and our daughter’s Birthday.

There’s just something so comforting about the colour of the leaves as they change and the crispness that is in the air. Donning some comfy sweaters, scarves and hats and throwing on a pair of boots and going out for a walk with the kiddos is just what this Mama needs.

Comfy clothes.

There are also so many things going on in the Fall from markets, fairs, corn mazes and the biggest deal of all for our daughter and me, Halloween.

Now that our daughter is almost 4, she’s now capable of remembering her experiences, so I want to start taking her to different events and tasting some really great food that she’s never tried before.

What do you look forward to this Fall?

30 Minutes, just for me. {Series}

30 Minute Hit New Westminster

Like a lot of new Moms, getting the baby weight off is a concern we have. What’s the best way to do it and how long will it take? Which gym or fitness class works around my baby’s new schedule? Can I bring my baby with me? A few years ago, after our daughter was born and I was looking into different fitness clubs and programs, I discovered 30 Minute Hit New Westminster. They offer a FREE trial class, so my girlfriend and I signed up. Stacey and Brett, the owners, were great! They were super friendly, made us feel comfortable and guided us through the entire 30 minute circuit. When we were done, we were tired, but it felt great! I wanted to sign up, but I knew that I’d be planning on getting pregnant again in the next few months, so I decided to hold off. When our son was born last year, I couldn’t wait to start exercising again. I did some spinning, and also started running, but the spin classes didn’t offer childminding and I didn’t own a suitable jogging stroller, so exercising while I was looking after the kids, wasn’t an option for me. Remembering back to the session I did at 30 Minute Hit , I thought that maybe now would be a great time for me to try it out again! My daughter is now in preschool several times a week in the morning so I would only have my son with me. They have, what I refer to as, a “kiddie corral”, so my now 1yo can play for the 30 minutes it’ll take me to do the circuit. And if he needs my attention, I can pop over to him and any point and tend to him.

The “kiddie corral”.

The circuit takes only 30 minutes to do and consists of fifteen, 2 minute stations. You alternate between ab, leg and arm workouts as you progress through the circuit, with a stretch station at the end once you’ve finished. When you sign up, your one time membership fee includes a new pair of leather boxing gloves with the 30 Minute Hit logo on it, and your monthly fees give you unlimited use of the circuit. This means, you can start out at an easy pace by going a couple times a week, and as your endurance improves, you could go more often. They are open 7 days a week, with 2 time slots on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and evenings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sundays being reserved for boot camps.

My new leather gloves.

You must have an “indoor only” pair of runners, but you can go barefoot. Make sure you bring a LARGE water bottle (’cause you’ll need it) and a towel that is just large enough to lay on. Also, tie you hair back tightly because there isn’t enough time between intervals to fix your do! I learned this the hard way. I have been given the greatest opportunity to work with 30 Minute Hit New Westminster for the next 6 months! I will be training with them 3-5X per week and reporting on my progress, how I’m feeling and sharing photos of my transformation along the way. I am so excited to have been chosen to promote 30 Minute Hit New Westminster! I hope you stay and follow me along my journey over the next 6 months:)

“Bob” doesn’t stand a chance!
