Bring the sexy back by flaunting your inner fireman. #RoomToMoveDanceAndFitness #YMCCommunity

After becoming a Mom over four years ago, my wardrobe has gone from boring, to plain old frumpy.

My world revolves around my kids and my priorities have changed in respect to my shopping. I now buy groceries or clothing for my ever-growing kids, but I seldom get anything for myself.

My “Mom Uniform” consists of yoga pants, a camisole, a t-shirt, a hoodie and my Bobs or a pair of flip flops, depending on the weather.

Definitely not a look of sexiness.

For the past few months, I have been exercising religiously in preparation for my 20 year high school reunion. I’m noticing some great results, and am actually feeling a lot better about myself and finding that my clothes are looking and feeling better on me.

That being said…I’ve also gained a new confidence that never existed before. I’m less afraid of trying new things that I previously would have been too shy to try out in fear of drawing attention to myself.

So, I decided to try out a pole dancing class!

The class was called Stiletto Sexy. And yes, you do wear stilettos and yes, you do look sexy.

In the class you not only learn how to pole dance, but you are also shown how to dance with a chair.

Chair Dance

If you think of the movie Striptease with Demi Moore, this is exactly what you would expect.

The unbuttoning of shirts, the removal of ties, and the body moves that would drive any grown man crazy! We learned how to walk, twirl around poles, and move as though we were the sexiest creatures in the world.

I failed to bring my “sexy stilettos”, so I was the lone gunman squeaking around in bare feet. Not nearly as glamourous, but definitely better than the clomping elephant that I would have been since I seldom EVER wear heels.

Walking badly in heels

Scroll above to see “Mom Uniform”.

Next we moved onto the poles.

Again, more sexy walking, but then we got to do some twirling.

I was pretty surprised that I was able to keep myself suspended as I spun around. It’s all in the technique.

Pole Dance

At the end of the evening, I definitely felt muscles that I hadn’t felt before. This certainly told me that this is a full body exercise and that if done regularly, one would definitely get pretty fit.

Since this fitness class is all about moving like a burlesque dancer, chances are your spouse would gladly pay for you to take it, providing you practiced A LOT at home.

Room to Move Dance and Fitness is a specialty fitness studio, offering pole dance, unique fitness classes and fun dance workouts for women. They specialize in pole fitness, (pole dance, or vertical fitness if you like), but also offer a wide range of other types of fitness & dance classes.

Save your fingers…and your furniture! {Giveaway/ 2 Winners} #Munchables #YMCCommunity

When our first born began to teethe, we used the Razzberry soother, and various liquid filled teethers to try to ease her pain. We resorted to Camillia and Tylenol and they managed to get us through it. Several books, an ottoman, window sills and my boobs, all didn’t fair so well.

Fortunately, her teeth poked through pretty quickly, so the suffering, and damage throughout the house ceased in a short period of time.
With kid #2, his teeth pretty much followed suit behind his sister. The first twelve came through quickly and mostly pain free. We still provided Camillia and Tylenol on the difficult days.
Unlike his sister, get didn’t turn into the family dog by chewing the legs off any chairs.
For the past few weeks, his eye teeth have decided to make an appearance. These new fangs are taking their sweet time breaking through, causing Mr. Gooberhead to gnaw incessantly on his hands and leave a trail of slime all over whatever he touches.
Poor Little a Dude.

Date Night…what’s that? {Giveaway} #myBestHelper #YMCCommunity

Every parent needs a Date Night once in awhile.

Unless…you have no child care options available.

Five ways date nights may strengthen couples.

(1) A date night is an opportunity to communicate.
(2) Date nights are valuable for their novelty.
(3) Date nights may strengthen or rekindle that romantic spark that can be helpful in sustaining the fires of love over the long haul.
(4) Date nights may strengthen a couple’s sense of commitment to one another.
(5) Date nights are a way to relieve stress.

The American Red Cross did a poll in 2012 that found that 55% of parents surveyed decided to stay home in the past 24 months, because they couldn’t find a babysitter.

I am totally guilty of this!

Being a little “trampy” can actually be a lot of fun! #RoomToMoveFitness #YMCCommunity

Awhile ago, while scrolling through Facebook, I came across a post that friend had shared.

It was a fitness class that involved using a mini trampoline.

I was pretty excited by the footage and had to find a class near me.

A girlfriend of mine found a local one at Room to Move Dance & Fitness and I had to try it out!

The program Jumping® is performed on individual trampolines. The basis of the class is the variously challenging combination of fast and slow jumps, dynamic sprints, balance and strength aspects and stretching as well. On the trampoline, these combinations become not only fun, but also a very efficient method of strengthening without causing impact on the knees.

I loved it!

However…my bladder was not a fan.

It was a super workout for my legs and it really got me into a good sweat.

Grab your girlfriends, climb into your favourite leotards and sweat bands and go get a little bit trampy.

When all you need is a little Mommy Time. #HalfmoonYogaProducts#YMCCommunity

Your day starts with the little one waking earlier than normal.

Your eldest wakes up grumpier than Mr. Fredricksen from the movie Up.

Breakfast gets burnt, you’ve run out of coffee, the dog chewed up the morning paper, then peed on it.

The kids get dropped off late at school, traffic is a bear and you spill your cup of “lunch room” coffee, that tastes like it was made with toilet water, down the front of your shirt.

At lunch, you discover the staff fridge thief has stolen your lunch and you’ve left your wallet at home.

At dinner time, the kids are fighting at the table and won’t eat a single bite of the dinner that you’ve prepared.

Bedtime is a struggle because, “Mom, I hafta pee!” and “I need a drink of water!”

Finally, the house is quiet, and you get to put your feet up and let the stresses of the day just melt away.

You have a hot bath, pull on your snuggly wuggly housecoat, make a cup of your favourite tea, and lay back on the couch and inspire your inner tranquility.

A fabulous accessory to help clear your mind and soothe your soul, is the Silk Eye Pillow from Halfmoon Yoga Products. This lovely little pillow is covered in a soft Dupioni Silk and comes scented or unscented.

When this Mama needs a little “me time” to shake off the day and centre myself, I just close my eyes and drift away into peacefulness.

What do you do when you need a little Mommy Time?

Halfmoon Yoga Products, has a vast assortment of yoga products from mats, bolsters, bags and a gorgeous collection of clothing.

When you sign up for the Halfmoon Yoga Products newsletter, you will receive a promo code for 15% off the first order of $150.

Operation Bedroom Share…COMPLETE FAIL! #YMCCommunity

I have been considering having our two little mites share a room for several months now.

We live in a two bedroom condo and currently our 4-1/2 yo sleeps in our room with us. She’s in her own bed, but we have her bunk with us because she sleeps through the night whereas the Little Dude at 19 months, still wakes every so often, making for a disturbed sleep for Daddy, who has to get up early for work in the morning.

Last week Daddy went away for work and I decided that this would be a fabulous opportunity for Operation Bedroom Swap!

The kids would take over the Master Bedroom as it was large enough to accommodate the crib, our daughter’s bed, the change table/ dresser, the night stand, the wee man’s dresser and still have room to move.

The second bedroom barely contained our queen-sized bed, but I was cool with this as we only used our room for sleeping, not entertaining.

So after 2-1/2 hours of taking two beds apart, swapping the furniture between the two rooms, keeping the lad from getting squashed by the queen-sized mattress, retrieving the screwdriver from his hands several times, stopping for lunch, putting a massive gauge in the hardwood floor and the general refereeing needed to keep the spawn from hurting each other (too badly), I managed to get the rooms set up and ready just in time for nighty night time.

The kids LOVED the new set up and I thought it was pretty cool too.

We did our bedtime routine as normal, Little Dude got his bottle, teeth brushed and was tucked in. The little lady then did her usual, had her cup of milk, brushed her teeth, we read a bedtime story (in Mum & Dad’s bed), went potty and quietly tucked her in.

Within 5 minutes, I hear, “Mama, I need a drink of water!” being yelled from the kids room!

I quickly pop in there with her water and tuck her back in, but as I’m making a quick get-away, I hear a giggle come from Little Dudes crib! BLARGH! I lay him back down, turn on his mobile and Sleep Sheep and hope that he settles back down.

Nope! He sees his sister across the room and proceeds to toss his bears and soother at her. She gets up and gives them back, but this creates a new bedtime game, so he tosses them at her again, so of course, she gives them back. This goes on for 5 minutes and I decide that she needs to come lay in my bed until Mr. Playtime falls back to sleep.

Normally, she wants to lay and possibly sleep in our bed, but tonight she insisted on being in her own bed and started acting up. I waited about 10 minutes and we snuck her back into her bed.

We managed to get through the night, so I figured I’d give another night a go.

Ugh! Night 2 was worse! The lad was up several times, woke his sister, they couldn’t get back to sleep, which made for a crappy next day.

Operation Bedroom Swap Reversal was inevitable and done very quickly just in time for afternoon nap.

If we stay living in our current dwelling for a few more years, the kids will eventually share a room. But…it won’t be until the boy is at least 2-1/2yo.

Do your kids share a room? How was the transition?

Boys and their cars…a favourite toy at any age. #tobotoys #YMCCommunity

I grew up in a house full of females.

I was the tomboy, and my sister had a vast array of Barbies, dolls and girly stuff. I was happy with my Tonka Jeep and cap gun.

I liked to ride my bike through giant mud puddles and play army guy in the nearby forest. A remote controlled car donned my Dear Santa list for several years until I finally got one, but by then, my interest in them had diminished and moved on to video games.

We had a few board games, but I always enjoyed toys that you got to build and then occasionally destroy. I even had an amazing car track that was super fun to play with.

Recently, we received the Tobo Track from Tobo Toys to test drive.

This cool little track system comes with a wooden car and can be used in conjunction with other toys, such as Hot Wheels, Thomas & Friends, Brio and other cars and trains.

The Tobo Track is made from only the safest non-toxic materials. Wood. It contains no toxic chemicals, metals, paints, plastics, epoxies, or synthetic binding agents. So, if your child puts it in their mouth, it is completely safe.

Our wee little lad has recently discovered his love of toy cars, so Tobo Track is an awesome addition to his assortment of favourite toys. We build a little roadway for him and he drives his little cars around on the track and if he wants something different, we take the pieces apart and build a new pattern of streets for him to manoeuvre his cars around. We could even get several sets and build our own little town in our play space. The sets even come with their own little handy dandy mesh bag to keep the pieces stored all together.

If you’d like to purchase your very own Tobo Track, please click here.

Tobo Toys has offered Raincity Parent readers a 15% discount when they purchase a Tobo Track. Please use codes TOBORCP or TOBORCM when you check out.
