Sip, Savour & Celebrate During Vancouver Christmas Market’s Milestone 10th Anniversary Season

One of the Lower Mainland’s signature seasonal events, the Vancouver Christmas Market, returns to celebrate its 10th anniversary season at Jack Poole Plaza (at the Olympic Cauldron), November 20–December 24, 2019. The city’s authentic German market amplifies its festive offerings with more than 80 huts stuffed with sweets, treats, and treasures, coupled with large-scale activities and live entertainment. Over the past 10 years, the Vancouver Christmas Market has become one of the city’s most treasured holiday traditions. This season, families, couples, and friends are invited to celebrate the market’s milestone anniversary and savour the abundance of authentic German-inspired sights, sounds, and flavours.

“We have come a long way since the very first Vancouver Christmas Market in 2010 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza. Initially, no one believed Vancouverites would attend an outdoor market in the wintertime. However, we persevered and welcomed more than 100,000 guests that first year!” says Malte Kluetz, Founder and CEO of the Vancouver Christmas Market.

Denise Wegener, President of the Vancouver Christmas Market adds, “A decade later, we are thrilled to see the tremendous growth of the market over the years: Our attendance numbers have more than doubled. We have also significantly increased our number of food and merchant vendors and filled the market with on-site activities and entertainment. We look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to share in this most wonderful time of year!”

Visitors will revel in the newly improved Winterdeck featuring lit up seats, heaters, and stunning views of the North Shore. Couples will take great pleasure in venturing down the newly expanded Lovers’ Lane — an Instagram-worthy 40-foot long tunnel adorned with 20,000 twinkling lights and mistletoe. The Love Lock Installation also returns, where lovers and friends can attach a ‘Vancouver Christmas Market Love Lock,’ serving as a beautiful symbol of friendship, love, and partnership over the holiday season.

After taking in the sights and sounds of the market, visitors will love gathering in the market’s cozy heated Alpine Lounge, where they can relax and indulge in hot beverages and delicious food in a holiday environment. Guests will also relish in attending the market’s WunderBAR — an 840 square foot twinkling oasis, offering an exclusive VIP experience in a gorgeous, heated wintry setting. This sleek hideaway is bookable for hour-long seatings where guests can indulge in a brand new menu featuring Christmas cocktails, hot Jägertee, or non-alcoholic drinks prepared by the market’s merry mixologists, served in commemorative take home glasses or mugs; as well as charcuterie or vegan charcuterie platters, and delicious German desserts. The WunderBAR is also the perfect place to host corporate events or Christmas parties with family or friends.

A huge draw to the Vancouver Christmas Market is its signature array of mouth-watering delectables, including Glühwein (a hot-spiced mulled wine), German Bratwurst, Gulasch, Spätzle, Schnitzel, sweet and savoury macarons, syrup-filled pancakes, warm roasted chestnuts, a selection of German beer, award-winning German style wine, and so much more.

A variety of new food vendors will be offering the best food and drink BC has to offer, including tender turkey legs from Turkey Haus; tomato sauces, pasta, pistachio cream spread, pesto, truffle salt, and jam from Damiani Fine Foods; poffertjes (mini Dutch pancakes) and aebleskiver (Danish pancake balls) from Two Sweet Elves; as well as speciality coffees, hot chocolate and sweet treats from East Van Roasters. The popular Transylvanian Traditions Bakery, known for their delicious chimney cakes, will also be serving a new shareable snack this year: langosh or flat bread with sweet or savoury toppings.

In addition to Deutschland delicacies, visitors can wander throughout the market’s quaint pathways discovering lovingly crafted gifts and treasures from merchant huts to be slipped into stockings and placed under Christmas trees. Some new additions to the market this year include The Sock Shack offering fun and cute socks, and Cashmere Crafts with colourful pillows and rugs from Kashmir. Everyone will enjoy adorning their tree with beautiful decorations and lights from Customized Ornaments and Amezing Lights. There are also a host of new eco-friendly merchant huts at the market such as Kasandy offering ethical leather goods and scarves from Kenya; Rü Supply Company with locally made lunch bags made from recyclable products; and MysGreen providing reusable pouches, beeswax food wraps, and other environmental products.

Guests will delight in other returning favourites — such as the Christmas Carousel, the Christmas Pyramid’s ‘Flying Stage’ perched 10 feet high above the market offering a lively line-up of daily festive entertainment, Canada’s first-ever Walk-In Christmas Tree — glittering with 36,000 twinkling lights, and a new, larger-than-life 10th anniversary Christmas mug towering in the centre of the market. These magnificent sights will provide the perfect backdrop for guests to take festive photos with family and friends and share in the magic of the season.

Families will be enchanted by a multitude of holiday activities including the return of free arts and crafts at the market’s Kinder Kraft Igloo, sponsored by 4Cats Arts Studio, a market-wide Christmas Treasure Hunt, as well as magical visits from Santa.

9th Annual Vancouver Christmas Market

A treasured tradition for locals and visitors alike, the Vancouver Christmas Market returns to Jack Poole Plaza (at the Olympic Cauldron), November 21 – December 24, 2018, with extended hours from 11:30am to 9:30pm. The city’s signature yuletide celebration amplifies and expands its festive offerings with more than 80 huts stuffed with sweets, treats, and treasures, coupled with an increased lineup of large-scale activities and live entertainment. Attracting a record number of more than 220,000 visitors last season, the market remains one of Vancouver’s beloved holiday events in which to savour the abundance of authentic German-inspired sights, sounds, and flavours.

“Every season, families, couples, and friends make their annual pilgrimage to feast upon festive delights, warm themselves with mulled wine, shop for unique treasures, and share the Christmas cheer,” says Malte Kluetz, Founder and President of the Vancouver Christmas Market. “This year, we are thrilled to present even more engaging holiday experiences for visitors of all ages to create lasting memories with their loved ones. Whether gathering to indulge in traditional German delicacies, shopping together for that one-of-a-kind gift, or meeting with friends to take in a wide range of special events including Children’s Wish Weeks with an exclusive visit and on-site activity with Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson, Deluxe Date Night, Kids Day, Club Christmas Thursdays, or Carousel Fridays, we look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to celebrate this joyous time of year!”

Among this year’s expanded highlights is a cozy heated Alpine Lounge where visitors will be able to relax and enjoy hot beverages and delicious food in a warm holiday environment. Afterwards, guests can make their way outside to revel in the new Winterdeck located beside the Alpine Lounge, featuring a charming entrance arch, a giant lit up picture frame, and stunning views of the North Shore. Couples will delight in venturing down Lovers’ Lane – an Instagram-worthy 30-foot long tunnel adorned with 10,000 twinkling lights and mistletoe. A Love Lock Installation will be placed near the tunnel to which lovers can attach a ‘Vancouver Christmas Market Love Lock’, serving as a beautiful symbol of love and partnership over the holiday season. Visitors will be dazzled by Santa in a 12-foot long sleigh floating underneath the Olympic Cauldron, and the return of Canada’s first-ever Walk-In Christmas Tree, glittering with 36,000 twinkling lights. These magnificent sights will provide the perfect backdrop for guests to take festive photos with family and friends and share in the magic of the season.

A huge draw to the Vancouver Christmas Market is its signature array of mouth-watering delectables, including Glühwein (a hot-spiced mulled wine), German Bratwurst, Gulasch, Spätzle, Schnitzel, Strudels, Transylvanian Chimney Cakes, a selection of German beer, award-winning German style wine, and so much more. A variety of new local vendors will be offering the best food and drink BC has to offer including organic vegan and vegetarian fare from the Organic Villa Vegan Haus, charcuterie from the Charcuterie Haus, sweet and savoury macarons prepared by Bon Macaron Patisserie, syrup-filled pancakes made by Mr. Hot Cakes, warm roasted chestnuts from JJ’s Fresh Roasted Chestnuts, and gluten free hard apple cider made by Howling Moon Craft Cider.

In addition to Deutschland delicacies and returning favourites – such as the Christmas Carousel and the Christmas Pyramid’s ‘Flying Stage’ perched 10 feet high above the market offering a lively line-up of daily festive entertainment, visitors can wander throughout the market’s quaint pathways of huts, discovering lovingly crafted gifts and treasures.
