GET FILTHY CLEAN AT 5K FOAM FEST!

(Abbotsford, BC) Frothy. foamy, and loaded with fun, 5K Foam Fest is coming to Abbotsford on June 3rd.

As part of 365 Sport Inc.’s 2017 national tour, Foam Fest will be held across Canada but in only three BC locations — Nanaimo, Sun Peaks, and Abbotsford.

With over 22 obstacles, 2.5 million cubic feet of foam, mucky mud pits, kids’ zone, 20-foot ‘sky fall’ drop, bouncy castles, the world’s tallest portable inflatable waterslide, food and drink vendors, and an on-site DJ, everyone can participate in good clean fun. Participants will also receive a race-bib, tattoo, water, medal, beach towel, and a Chapman’s Sports Lolly.

As part of 365 Sport Inc.’s ‘give-back’ policy to feed families across Canada, each Foam Fest event partners with the location’s local food bank. Participants who bring a non-perishable food item will receive a custom branded 5k foam fest lanyard and 365 Sport Inc. will also make a financial contribution.
“Foam Fest is an energizing, non-competitive community event that gives locals an opportunity to come out and have fun. This is our fourth season as we keep scoping out new destinations to build partnerships with. We are thrilled to come to Abbotsford and show everyone what Foam Fest is made of. Based on last year’s attendance, we anticipate 70,000 participants nationwide, of which 6,000 will be coming from the Lower Mainland,” says Michael Lambert, Director of Partnerships.

With sport event hosting being such an important mix of attracting visitors to Abbotsford, Tourism Abbotsford is a strong supporter of the event.
“It’s great working with 365 Sports Inc., as they prepare to bring Foam Fest to Abbotsford. Part of what makes for a vibrant and united community, are large-scale events like this. We know our community will come out and join in on the fun, but we are also excited to host visitors as they explore our backyard,” says Craig Nichols, Executive Director of Tourism Abbotsford.

KIDS ENCOURAGED TO SPREAD GOODWILL AT THIRDANNUAL KINDNESS PATROL

Children throughout the province are being encouraged to join the Kindness Patrol on May 28th 2017, a movement to spread kindness and goodwill throughout the community.

Dr. Carla Fry and Dr. Lisa Ferrari

The initiative was spearheaded by Clinical Psychologists Dr. Carla Fry and Dr. Lisa Ferrari from Vancouver Psychology Centre and Real Parenting Lab, in an effort jump-start the younger generation’s belief in the power of a kind word or gesture.

“This really is kindness for kindness sake,” says Dr. Lisa Ferrari. “There is no other goal, we aren’t fundraising or doing anything like that. We just want to show kids that kindness is its own reward and that there is real value in being nice to others.”

The Dr.Fs, as they’re known, are hosting a Kindness Patrol at Stanley Park from 11am to 1pm on Sunday May 28th. Participants will be tying notes with positive messages to cut flowers and giving them out to unsuspecting passersby.

Space is limited and those who are unable to join are encouraged to launch their own Kindness Patrol, wherever they may live. The www.kindnesspatrol.org website includes a Kindness Note download that kids can print out and decorate. They can then give the notes away in their own neighbourhoods and communities, with or without flowers attached. The website also includes other suggestions for easy-to-execute kindness acts.

“We firmly believe that kindness is infectious. Our dream is to see this happening all over the city, the province, and even the country,” say Dr. Fry.

This is the third annual Kindness Patrol in Vancouver. Past years saw participants deliver baked cookies to first responders, visit seniors in a retirement home, and pick up litter at Ambleside beach.

“The joy we saw on the kids’ faces was remarkable. Seeing that even the smallest thing could put a smile on someone else’s face and potentially impact their whole day, that’s a pretty powerful lesson,” says Dr. Fry.

This event has been sponsored by a number of local businesses in past years, including David’s Tea, Iviva, Cobs Bread, and Kidsbooks.
