9th Annual Vancouver Christmas Market

A treasured tradition for locals and visitors alike, the Vancouver Christmas Market returns to Jack Poole Plaza (at the Olympic Cauldron), November 21 – December 24, 2018, with extended hours from 11:30am to 9:30pm. The city’s signature yuletide celebration amplifies and expands its festive offerings with more than 80 huts stuffed with sweets, treats, and treasures, coupled with an increased lineup of large-scale activities and live entertainment. Attracting a record number of more than 220,000 visitors last season, the market remains one of Vancouver’s beloved holiday events in which to savour the abundance of authentic German-inspired sights, sounds, and flavours.

“Every season, families, couples, and friends make their annual pilgrimage to feast upon festive delights, warm themselves with mulled wine, shop for unique treasures, and share the Christmas cheer,” says Malte Kluetz, Founder and President of the Vancouver Christmas Market. “This year, we are thrilled to present even more engaging holiday experiences for visitors of all ages to create lasting memories with their loved ones. Whether gathering to indulge in traditional German delicacies, shopping together for that one-of-a-kind gift, or meeting with friends to take in a wide range of special events including Children’s Wish Weeks with an exclusive visit and on-site activity with Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson, Deluxe Date Night, Kids Day, Club Christmas Thursdays, or Carousel Fridays, we look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to celebrate this joyous time of year!”

Among this year’s expanded highlights is a cozy heated Alpine Lounge where visitors will be able to relax and enjoy hot beverages and delicious food in a warm holiday environment. Afterwards, guests can make their way outside to revel in the new Winterdeck located beside the Alpine Lounge, featuring a charming entrance arch, a giant lit up picture frame, and stunning views of the North Shore. Couples will delight in venturing down Lovers’ Lane – an Instagram-worthy 30-foot long tunnel adorned with 10,000 twinkling lights and mistletoe. A Love Lock Installation will be placed near the tunnel to which lovers can attach a ‘Vancouver Christmas Market Love Lock’, serving as a beautiful symbol of love and partnership over the holiday season. Visitors will be dazzled by Santa in a 12-foot long sleigh floating underneath the Olympic Cauldron, and the return of Canada’s first-ever Walk-In Christmas Tree, glittering with 36,000 twinkling lights. These magnificent sights will provide the perfect backdrop for guests to take festive photos with family and friends and share in the magic of the season.

A huge draw to the Vancouver Christmas Market is its signature array of mouth-watering delectables, including Glühwein (a hot-spiced mulled wine), German Bratwurst, Gulasch, Spätzle, Schnitzel, Strudels, Transylvanian Chimney Cakes, a selection of German beer, award-winning German style wine, and so much more. A variety of new local vendors will be offering the best food and drink BC has to offer including organic vegan and vegetarian fare from the Organic Villa Vegan Haus, charcuterie from the Charcuterie Haus, sweet and savoury macarons prepared by Bon Macaron Patisserie, syrup-filled pancakes made by Mr. Hot Cakes, warm roasted chestnuts from JJ’s Fresh Roasted Chestnuts, and gluten free hard apple cider made by Howling Moon Craft Cider.

In addition to Deutschland delicacies and returning favourites – such as the Christmas Carousel and the Christmas Pyramid’s ‘Flying Stage’ perched 10 feet high above the market offering a lively line-up of daily festive entertainment, visitors can wander throughout the market’s quaint pathways of huts, discovering lovingly crafted gifts and treasures.

Families will enjoy a multitude of holiday activities including the market’s new Kinder Kraft Igloo sponsored by 4Cats Arts Studio, featuring a market-wide Christmas scavenger hunt for children, as well as free arts and crafts. The Santa Photo Hut also returns along with cookie decorating for kids at the Gingerbread Haus.

{{Promo Code}} Santa’s calling! A personalized message for your little ones, directly from Santa himself! #PortableNorthPole

We brave the line-ups every year at the mall, just so the kiddos can have their picture taken with Santa and tell him what they have on their Wish List. He reminds them to be good and hands them a candy cane as they exit stage left.

Waiting in line for Santa

Somehow, this doesn’t seem too personal and that believable. This year, try adding a little more magic to your kiddos Christmas experience. Portable North Pole can do just that! Santa will speak directly to your child, by name, know personal details about them and talk to them about achievements that they’ve had over the past year and maybe help them with some of their struggles.

Portable North Pole

Our kids always look forward to hearing from Santa every Christmas time and seeing what the elves are up to!

The kids snuggle up with Daddy and I to watch their special message and I can’t help but get verklempt, every…single…time! I sit there trying to hold back my tears as my “Mommy emotions” get the best of me.

PNP – Portable North Pole is one of the most personal Santa experiences in the world. You can easily create customized video or phone messages from Santa Claus for your loved ones, adding information about the recipient and uploading photos for a completely personalized greeting. The high-quality messages make the North Pole village come alive, and you can experience the magic for FREE!

You can access the PNP experience online at or via our mobile app (compatible with Apple and Android devices). Premium videos, available for a small fee, are longer and include more personalisation options and storylines. Bundle packages are great for families and an affordable option for those who wish to make more than one video (often selected by parents wishing to make videos for multiple children). The passes also unlock exclusive Christmas Eve video content and allows the video to be downloaded in HD to keep as a souvenir for years to come!

In the true spirit of giving, the PNP team has pledged to donate 5% of all web sales to Children’s Hospital foundations across the world.

And just like that…another Christmas whisks by. #YMCCommunity

Another Christmas has come and gone…

Christmas is done for another year.

Kinda sad really. When December 1st hit, it was quite exciting to see the glow in our kid’s eyes as all the Christmas lights and decorations starting popping up. The holiday cartoons were in full swing and clogging up our DVR. The Christmas tunes were cranked in the van and our daughter participated in her first School Concert (queue sappy Mom getting all teary-eyed).

Christmas concert.

Note to self: taking a 2yo to a school Christmas concert when it’s supposed to be nap time, is not the best idea in the world. His teddy bear, soother and shoes became projectiles, beaning our fellow audience members in the heads. He pooped his pants 10 minutes into the hour-long performance and then had a temper tantrum and meltdown twenty minutes before it ended, causing us to make a hasty retreat to the lobby at the entrance of the school where he made short work of undecorating the school Christmas tree.

Cpt. Destructo

Our Christmas was pretty quiet. We got together with the family for a few dinners, visited with friends and absorbed as much of the festive displays and markets that we could possibly handle. Daddy even had holidays booked at the same time as school holidays, so it was even better that we could spend so much time together.

Now it’s time for all the Elves on the Shelves to go back to Santaland for another year and relieve parents from having to come up with yet another scenario to surprise this kiddies with.

Sparkles the Elf

The empty boxes and crumpled paper have filled the bins and the Christmas trees are being disrobed and put away, taken to the dump or chipped up for a local organization.

I remember when I was a kid, my friend’s Mom would leave a 6-pack of beer out for the garbage men so they’d take the entire pile of Christmas debris away, including the tree. I don’t think that happens anymore.

The kids toy bin is overflowing and they’re fighting who gets a turn with the new ones. I think it’s time to cull the bin of the forgotten toys and let them live their next life in a new home.

I’ve joined GoodLife Fitness and plan to go 3x a week alternating with running every other day. I plan to kick up my fitness level another notch to really get in shape for 2015. Hubby and I have made a pact to eat healthier and drink more water too!

I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone and got a new hair do. Something I’ve always wanted to do, but never felt brave enough to actually do it. I think it looks great and my friends have complimented me on it too! So there’s one step towards a fantastic new year.

My new do!

2015 is just a moment away and we plan to make it a great year for us! We have some plans in mind and we are going to make sure they happen 🙂

What do you have in store for 2015?

This post was written as a part of the GoodLife Fitness Blogger Ambassador Program, however all opinions expressed are my own.

17th Annual #BrightNights at Stanley Park!

When the Christmas lights start popping up in our neighbourhood, our kids faces start lighting up just as bright!

The twinkling lights, animated ornaments, and if course the inflatables!

We love driving around town enjoying the displays that people have really put time and effort in. We live in a condo, so our contribution to the Christmas lights shows is minimal, but we do decorate our balcony to share the merriness of the season!

Back for it’s 17th year, Bright Nights in Stanley Park will be lighting up the forest with their magnificent Christmas light displays in support of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. Over 800 fire fighters contribute more than 8,000 hours over the 3 month period of set-up, operations and tear down.

The monies raised from the donations received at the entrance gate go directly to the Burn Fund. Also, the Burn Fund is encouraging the visitors to show their generosity by making a contribution to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Most needed items include: canned meat/fish; natural peanut butter; whole wheat pasta/rice; pasta sauce; canned fruits/vegetables; 100% fruit juices; low-sugar cereals; baby food, formula & diapers. www.foodbank.bc.ca
