Oh Canada! Our home and…blah blah blah. #YMCCommunity

Driving along in the family car and a favourite song pops up on the radio. Everyone The kids starts singing along at the top of their lungs and dancing in their seats, and Mom and Dad have a good laugh. Next time I must take some video footage to use against them in the future 😉

We go shopping and another familiar song is heard over the speakers in the store. Singing ensues and possibly a little booty shaking. No, I’m not afraid to get my groove on in public when I’m out and about with the kids.

A movie, that we’ve the kids have watched a zillion times, finishes and the dancey dance starts as the credits roll.

The national anthem begins to play and the kids stand there with the look of a young cow at a new gate. Blank stareWhy haven’t we taught our kids “O Canada”?

We don’t go to sporting events, so I suppose it’s never occurred to us to sing it with them. I remember when I was a kid in elementary school, every morning before we started class, we’d sing the anthem. My parents didn’t teach it to me.

Do your kids know the words to their favourite songs better than the national anthem?

Just in case you aren’t familiar with the lyrics or you’d like to teach your kids, here they are:

O Canada! Our home and native land

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise The true north, strong and free

From far and wide, O Canada We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free

O Canada! We stand on guard for thee

O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

When you think of a Family Car, what image pops in to your head? Maybe the Griswolds from National Lampoons Vacation? Maybe a minivan? I swore that when I started a family, I would NEVER have a minivan! I would have a super awesome SUV! And we did. To start.

It was a pretty sweet ride! 4 doors, so getting the baby in and out was easier than the 2 door Jeep that we previously owned. 4×4, so it was safer to be driving around with our wet Westcoast weather. Loads of space in the back cargo hold. Manual transmission, so we felt that we had better control. And it was a nice looking vehicle. The top could come off in the Summer when the weather was nice. Did the top EVER come off? Nope! The new Mommy in me felt that baby would get too much sun and it would be too windy for her. We kept it for 3 years, then… Munchkin #2 came along and we needed more room. Ugh. OK, let’s go have a look. We ended up settling on a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Seats 7. Loads of storage room. 2 sliding side doors. Good on gas consumption. Pretty? No. Fun to drive? Na uh. But did I mention that it has loads of room? Hopefully once we’re out of the “baby” stage and we don’t need to drag a stroller around and have to tote along the playard for baby to sleep in when we travel, we can get back into an SUV. My girlfriend is super excited about the Tesla Model X, and has my interest piqued as well.

This beauty is an electric car. Seats 7. Has loads of storage (front & rear). Has gull-wings, so close-parkers at the mall won’t have any effect on you. And will cost around $35,000. Or we could wait longer and score one of these.
