A great start to a healthier New Year! #YMCCommunity

Since January 1st of this year, I’ve been committed to exercising every day! Here we are now beginning February already and I’ve stayed committed!

Me and my workout buddy!

I started with two 30 Day Challenges, Bikini Body Mommy Challenge 3.0 and I occasionally get out running after the kids have gone to bed and hubby isn’t away for work.

This month, I’ve kicked it up a notch. I’ve changed up the 30 day challenges to work out other areas of my body that need some attention, but I’m still doing the Ab and Squat workouts because I’m seeing some great results. The Bikini Body Mommy Challenge is a 90 day challenge, so I’m still progressing through it. I check in daily with my Facebook Fitness groups so that I stay accountable and hopefully motivate the other members to stay on track or start their own journey to be healthier and happier.

Healthier you

We have a trip to Maui planned for the end of March and I’d like to feel good (and of course, look good) in a bathing suit and perhaps…a BIKINI!

What?!

A bikini?!

I’m hopeful that this will become a reality as I intend on sticking with the exercise. I plan on taking in a few of the fitness classes offered by GoodLife Fitness as well. I’ve been itching to get back into Zumba®.

Have you started a routine, whether it be getting in exercise or eating healthier, this year?

Every Mom should have a Boudoir session! #YMCCommunity #goodlife

So, you’ve squeezed out a kid or more and you’re feeling that your body is not exactly the picture of beauty.

You’re not alone. Many women feel that there bodies are “too fluffy”, their boobs are not where they used to be and their newly acquired “Tiger Stripes” should be kept hidden.

In the last few years, there have been several ad campaigns with major brand names, celebrating the “Mom Body”.

And so it should be.

Us women go through a tremendous amount of physical and emotional change as we grow, give birth and nurture the little beings that make us Moms. Not only do our bodies stretch in ways that we never thought possible while we were pregnant, but after the fruit of our loins emerge into the world, we now give up sleep, proper eating and perhaps some personal hygiene which makes us feel even less attractive.

We fill up our phones and cameras with pictures of our little ones, but mysteriously, Mom is usually absent from these images. Most of the time because we are the ones taking all the pictures, but probably the main reason is that we feel like we’re not “photo ready”.

Well it’s time for Mommy to have her turn. Give her the opportunity to let the beauty that is hiding on the inside a chance come out and show the world (or at least her chosen audience).

Mommy needs a Boudoir session.

Boudoir sessions have come a long way since the days of yore. There are so many options to be had when having one done. You don’t need to be scantily clad in a bra and panties, rather a slouchy sweater and a pair of boxer shorts. Maybe your hubby’s favourite team jersey or one of his work shirts and a tie paired with a classy hat. Whatever you would feel most comfortable in…or not in 😉

I personally have had two sessions. One was done outdoors and the other was a fun Halloween inspired shoot. I would be the last one to say that I was beautiful, but I felt beautiful and that’s what’s most important.

A good Boudoir photographer really knows how to capture their subject’s best features using proper lighting and angles. Pinterest is a great resource to seek out different poses, hair and make-up ideas and what you could wear…or not wear 😉 Do your own hair and make-up, make an appointment at a local salon or cosmetics counter or ask your photographer if they have a preferred hair and make-up artist that they work with.

I’m still working on my physical self with running and going to GoodLife Fitness in the plans of having another Boudoir session. Perhaps showing a little more skin than previously…

Have you lost all your “baby weight” and want to celebrate it? Have you found a new sense of confidence and want to show it off?

So what are you waiting for? Book your session and bring along your best girlfriend for courage and to help you with your poses (I don’t recommend bringing along your two year old like I did). Relax, have fun and let your inner beautiful shine on the outside too!

And just like that…another Christmas whisks by. #YMCCommunity

Another Christmas has come and gone…

Christmas is done for another year.

Kinda sad really. When December 1st hit, it was quite exciting to see the glow in our kid’s eyes as all the Christmas lights and decorations starting popping up. The holiday cartoons were in full swing and clogging up our DVR. The Christmas tunes were cranked in the van and our daughter participated in her first School Concert (queue sappy Mom getting all teary-eyed).

Christmas concert.

Note to self: taking a 2yo to a school Christmas concert when it’s supposed to be nap time, is not the best idea in the world. His teddy bear, soother and shoes became projectiles, beaning our fellow audience members in the heads. He pooped his pants 10 minutes into the hour-long performance and then had a temper tantrum and meltdown twenty minutes before it ended, causing us to make a hasty retreat to the lobby at the entrance of the school where he made short work of undecorating the school Christmas tree.

Cpt. Destructo

Our Christmas was pretty quiet. We got together with the family for a few dinners, visited with friends and absorbed as much of the festive displays and markets that we could possibly handle. Daddy even had holidays booked at the same time as school holidays, so it was even better that we could spend so much time together.

Now it’s time for all the Elves on the Shelves to go back to Santaland for another year and relieve parents from having to come up with yet another scenario to surprise this kiddies with.

Sparkles the Elf

The empty boxes and crumpled paper have filled the bins and the Christmas trees are being disrobed and put away, taken to the dump or chipped up for a local organization.

I remember when I was a kid, my friend’s Mom would leave a 6-pack of beer out for the garbage men so they’d take the entire pile of Christmas debris away, including the tree. I don’t think that happens anymore.

The kids toy bin is overflowing and they’re fighting who gets a turn with the new ones. I think it’s time to cull the bin of the forgotten toys and let them live their next life in a new home.

I’ve joined GoodLife Fitness and plan to go 3x a week alternating with running every other day. I plan to kick up my fitness level another notch to really get in shape for 2015. Hubby and I have made a pact to eat healthier and drink more water too!

I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone and got a new hair do. Something I’ve always wanted to do, but never felt brave enough to actually do it. I think it looks great and my friends have complimented me on it too! So there’s one step towards a fantastic new year.

My new do!

2015 is just a moment away and we plan to make it a great year for us! We have some plans in mind and we are going to make sure they happen 🙂

What do you have in store for 2015?

My Quest for Happiness…Day 3 #100DaysOfGratitude #YMCCommunity

This morning I woke up with a million things going through my mind…

Wide awake in bed

As most Moms do, my To-Do List was being written as I lay in bed, an hour before I really need to get up. My body was still tired, but my brain was saying, “Up and at ’em, sister!” Funny enough, I actually felt rested.

My back has been bothering me for the past several days, so my regular working out has been way-layed and the Halloween candy bowl keeps whispering to me, “You must eat me so the kids don’t!” I’ve been pretty religious about pitching a handful or so of the naughty snacks everyday, so the misery will end sooner.

As soon as I’m feeling 90% better! I will be activating my GoodLife Fitness membership and get this ass in gear. We have a tropical vaycay planned for Easter and I’d like my tan lines not to include a line where my shorts end.

So for today’s gratitude, I give you these:

1) I am grateful for my comfy bed.

*it is here that my body is most comfortable and I get my best thinking done.

2) I am grateful for my motivation to get exercise and be fit.

*the members of my Facebook Fitness Group would call me a hypocrite if I only posted motivation for others without committing to it myself.

3) I am grateful for laundry detergent.

* you make my world right again by eliminating the funky stank that permeates my workout gear.

Why I stopped bothering. #YMCCommunity

I’ve decided that my life is too busy right now for me to be bothered.

What I mean by that is…I’ve started to go au naturel.

August naturel

Not in the “no underwear, no deodorant, unshaven” kinda way, but I haven’t been wearing any make-up.

It’s been going on now for a couple of months. I started in the Summer because I thought getting a little sun on my face would cut down on the need to use foundation everyday. I also wanted to give my skin a break.

I started wearing make-up back in grade 8 and never stopped. I even went to cosmetology school to become a Make-up Artist.

So for me to be going “fresh face” is a whole new experience. Not just for me…

I’ve been asked if I’m tired or not well by people I know. I am not offended by this question because I know that they aren’t used to seeing me this way.

Now that our daughter has joined the ranks of Elementary School, I also have less time in the morning to fuss with my face. I’ve also been exercising a lot lately and joined GoodLife Fitness, so what’s the point in “putting my face on” when I’m just going to get all sweaty anyways and hop into the shower afterwards.

So when I do finally slap on a little rouge and lip gloss, it will make me feel like I’m pampering myself a little and perhaps receive a few compliments on how well and rested I’m looking 😉

Glammed up

Do you regularly wear make-up or do you prefer not to wear any?

Summer…you don’t scare me anymore! {Giveaway} #YMCCommunity

I have never been a fan of Summer.

With the weather being warm and the clothing being minimal, I have always been uncomfortable wearing shorts, tanks and (heaven forbid) a SWIMSUIT!

Vintage Swimsuits

Being on the self conscious side, I prefer cooler temps to hide under layers rather than flaunting some skin.

But this Summer is different.

For the past several months, I have been exercising religiously. I have been doing 30 Day Challenges, at-home body weight workouts, a 90 Day Challenge, running, going for hikes, chasing my kids around, and I will be checking out GoodLife Fitness next month, so I’ve dropped some weight and feeling a lot better in my own skin.

The only thing that sucks about showing so much skin, is constantly keeping my legs, pits and bikini line smooth and clean. Thank goodness for Harry’s. These razors definitely do the job and the cost of replacing these blades is much lower than the major brands that I’ve used in the past.

It’s definitely been a challenge to keep exercising during the warm weather that we’ve been experiencing, but I figure, the more I sweat, the more fat my body is burning. As long I keep my motivation up, the working out will become less of a chore and more of a desire.

I look forward to seeing my achievements next Summer, when I hope to slip into a two piece suit that potentially could show a little mid section.
