Super heros come in all sizes! #SuperflyKids

Kids love to dress up.

I remember when I was little, I would go through my Mum’s old clothing from the 60’s and 70’s and have a laugh at the weird things she used to wear. There were polyester bell bottoms, crop tops and even a big ‘ol bag of wigs! My best friend and I would piece together some outrageous outfits, plop on a wig and zip around the neighbourhood on our bikes or roller skates. We loved the attention that we drew and laughed until we cried and our faces and stomachs hurt.

Costumes have come a long way since the days of my childhood. They are more comfortable, durable, washable, and always available. We’d have to wait until Halloween came around where our Mum’s would go to Woolco and pick out one of those terrible one-time use plastic jumpsuits with the flimsy mask that was held on by a crummy elastic.

Do you remember these?

Do you remember these?

Nowadays, there are Princess dress-up sets and super hero gear that you can get for your littles to play with. They use their imaginations so creatively that one minute they’re having tea with their stuffies and the next minute, they’re racing around in the yard defending their playhouse from the evil lawnmower or hiding out in the pile of raked leaves waiting for and evil-doer to pass by.

Superfly Kids has a variety of dress up pieces that your kids will love to play with!

image

They carry super hero capes and accessories, tutu’s and even capes for the big kids who still like to dress up.

Our little super hero loves to pretend while wearing his custom cape.

image

He even protected his sister and I from the impending danger by the mower working in our local park.

Then his big sister took a spin around the park practicing her super power of running “really really fast”!

If you’d like to get your own little super hero his or her own cape, or perhaps a tutu, please visit Superfly Kids website. They can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.

School fundraising.

We’ve recently been given some chocolate bars to sell to raise funds for our daughter’s preschool.

Who can say "No!" to a kid?

Who can say “No!” to a kid?

I remember having to sell chocolate bars when I was a kid too. My Mum would take them in to work and they’d all be sold in no time. Now, for my kids, I am a Stay-At-Home-Mom, so I have no co-workers to sell them to and my husband works from home, so he also has no one to dump them on. With Halloween just leaving us in it’s wake, family and friends have no interest in obtaining more chocolate, and being $3/piece, who in their right mind would buy one?
I think it’s time for a change in what “they” want kids to sell to raise funds for something.

Different Ideas for Fundraising

Different Ideas for Fundraising

For one, people are cheap, so make it affordable. Secondly, stop with the junk food! Times have changed and we are more mindful of what we put in our kids bodies as well as ourselves. And they’ve got another thing coming if I’m going to buy chocolate, just to turf it in the bin. I think schools should really do a better job at promoting healthy eating when conducting fundraisers. Have you heard of DASH? Check out their guide for Healthy Fundraising for Schools. It’s up to us as parents to speak up about what is acceptable when it comes to our kids.

I understand that schools, organizations, and groups fundraise to help cover their costs, but make it worth the purchaser ‘s dollar.
