When you feel like you’ve had enough…call upon your tribe to get you through it. #MomGroups #YMCCommunity

Have you ever reached a point when your life is stretching you so thin, that you’re on the verge of breaking?

The laundry and dishes just keep piling up instead of getting smaller. The dust bunnies are nearing the size of cats. Your dinner ideas are becoming less appetizing and the family dog won’t even touch the leftovers with a 10′ pole. The bathroom has become a petrie dish for germs and grossness. The kids are constantly fighting, pulling at you and the noise is reaching ear-splitting level. You’re tired and the last thing on your mind is having a little “Mommy and Daddy Time”.

Do you feel alone with no one to talk to? You’re not alone. There are more Moms than you know out there who are feeling the EXACT same way.
You need to find a tribe of fellow Mommies that you can talk to, share your troubles, ask questions, get support and find your happy self again.
Go online, Google or search Facebook for Mom Groups in your area. They are there and if they aren’t, start your own. Chances are, you’re going to find that Mommies will be coming out of the woodwork looking for other Moms to connect with.
In 2009, when our daughter was born, I did just that. I Googled Mom Groups in and around my neighbourhood and low and behold “The Tri-Cities Moms Group” on Meetup.com, was the first one found.

I can’t tell you how much the Moms that I’ve met in this group have helped me. Not only have our kids found friends and playmates, but I have connected with some pretty fabulous ladies who I can confide in when I’m feeling my most vulnerable, but also share in laughter during the good times. Getting out and having “Me Time” for Mom’s Nights Out, going for walks or spa dates or something as simple as a coffee, really makes a difference and helps this Mama keep her sanity when the universe appears to be closing in around me.

Have you found your tribe of Mommy friends? How have they helped you through your good times and bad?

I never thought I’d amount to much…now look what I’ve gone and done! #YMCCommunity #VancouverMomTop30

Vancouver Mom Top 30 Blogger 2014

Vancouver Mom Top 30 Blogger 2014

Last Fall I decided that I was going to try out this whole “blogging” thing. I had started my Facebook Page back in November 2010, where I shared links to websites, contests, funny pictures and posts, local events, recalls and pretty much anything that I found relivent to being a parent or caregiver.

I originally thought, “There’s no way that I can do this! I’m a blurber, not a blogger. I can usually spout off a sentence or two, but not an entire blog post.”

Well, one day I sat down and a whole pile-o-drivel came spilling out and alas, Raincity Parent the blog was born.

I have two kids under 5 running around under my feet, needing my constant attention, pulling me this way and that, and essentially draining every ounce of energy from my body on a daily basis.

I regularly send emails to myself with post ideas because when I finally get a chance to sit down and type one out, 9 times out of 10, I’ve completely forgotten what it was.

Some days, when I’m reading our daughter her bedtime story, I find myself dozing off. This is usually when I say to myself, “I’m going to bed early tonight!”

Never happens though.

After she’s tucked in, I throw on my runners (as long as hubby isn’t away for work) and go for an hour run to get in the “me time” that I’ve earned that day. Upon my return, a shower, a glass of wine (if I’m lucky to have some in the house) and hopefully my mind is still capable of conjuring up a little something something to share via the blog.

I have days or weeks where the ideas lay dormant, but eventually they surface and “Bazinga!” off we go. Thank goodness for the scheduler, because there are some definite dry spells followed by a tsunami of thoughts.

Well, guess what

I’ve been nominated as one of Vancouver Mom’s Top 30 Mom Bloggers for 2014!
Little ole me, who didn’t have much to say, has done something I never imagined I’d ever do.

It just goes to show that if you put your mind to something, good things can happen to you!

From now until June 6th, 2014, you can vote for your favourite Mom Blogger from the Vancouver area. I’m in the company of some fabulous bloggy Moms and a few of them, I even call my friends.

Good luck to all the competitors, but really…in the end we’re all winners just being nominated!

When all you need is a little Mommy Time. #HalfmoonYogaProducts#YMCCommunity

Your day starts with the little one waking earlier than normal.

Your eldest wakes up grumpier than Mr. Fredricksen from the movie Up.

Breakfast gets burnt, you’ve run out of coffee, the dog chewed up the morning paper, then peed on it.

The kids get dropped off late at school, traffic is a bear and you spill your cup of “lunch room” coffee, that tastes like it was made with toilet water, down the front of your shirt.

At lunch, you discover the staff fridge thief has stolen your lunch and you’ve left your wallet at home.

At dinner time, the kids are fighting at the table and won’t eat a single bite of the dinner that you’ve prepared.

Bedtime is a struggle because, “Mom, I hafta pee!” and “I need a drink of water!”

Finally, the house is quiet, and you get to put your feet up and let the stresses of the day just melt away.

You have a hot bath, pull on your snuggly wuggly housecoat, make a cup of your favourite tea, and lay back on the couch and inspire your inner tranquility.

A fabulous accessory to help clear your mind and soothe your soul, is the Silk Eye Pillow from Halfmoon Yoga Products. This lovely little pillow is covered in a soft Dupioni Silk and comes scented or unscented.

When this Mama needs a little “me time” to shake off the day and centre myself, I just close my eyes and drift away into peacefulness.

Moms Night In, Version 2.0

I held another Mom’s Night in this past weekend.

It was so nice to get the Mommies together again after the holidays.

I, once again, brought in the lovely ladies from Ultimate Mobile Spa to treat us to some pampering. They, once again, out did themselves! The small army of 5 took great care to soothe our tired feet and nourish our over-worked hands and help this fabulous group of Moms relax, while they savoured tasty treats and indulged in “grown up” chit chat.

A BIG “Thank You” to the Daddies and grandparents who braved the babysitting to allow these sensational Mommies some much needed “Me Time”!
