Surviving the “Man Cold” without losing it! #YMCCommunity

So, hubby woke up the other day with the dreaded “Man Cold”!

The Man Cold

If you don’t know what this is…it’s a regular cold, but it’s “man-sized”.

By this, I mean, every aspect about the cold is exaggerated. Their temperature is “like a million degrees”, their heads are “practically exploding”, the bed is the only comfortable and warm place to lay, the kids are excruciatingly louder than normal, their energy is so drained that getting food or drink is nearly impossible, but going to the bathroom is easily achieved as long as there’s a clear path and no one disturbs him en route.

I figured out how to sort things out before the “milking it” got out of hand. As soon as the grumpy bear appears from his den, I immediately hand him a couple of Daytime Cold & Flu gel capsules and a glass of water.

Daytime Cold & Flu medicine

Wait about a half an hour and you are free of one more kid to take care of.

There, of course, is the lingering cough and runny nose still, but hand him a box of tissues and a handful of lozenges, and when afternoon nap time comes around, send him and the little ones off for a peaceful 2 hour break for Mom, so you can sip your cup of tea and catch up on your own stuff in peace.

Enjoying a cup of tea

Then at bedtime, hook him up with a couple Nightime Cold & Flu capsules, so you both can get a restful sleep. It would also be fantastic if they came with a snore suppressant as well, ’cause Cold Snores are the equivalent to a thunderstorm RIGHT. BESIDE. YOUR. HEAD, accompanied with the “Breath of Death”!

How do you handle the “Man Cold” when it rears it’s ugly head in your home?

When you feel like you’ve had enough…call upon your tribe to get you through it. #MomGroups #YMCCommunity

Have you ever reached a point when your life is stretching you so thin, that you’re on the verge of breaking?

The laundry and dishes just keep piling up instead of getting smaller. The dust bunnies are nearing the size of cats. Your dinner ideas are becoming less appetizing and the family dog won’t even touch the leftovers with a 10′ pole. The bathroom has become a petrie dish for germs and grossness. The kids are constantly fighting, pulling at you and the noise is reaching ear-splitting level. You’re tired and the last thing on your mind is having a little “Mommy and Daddy Time”.

Do you feel alone with no one to talk to? You’re not alone. There are more Moms than you know out there who are feeling the EXACT same way.
You need to find a tribe of fellow Mommies that you can talk to, share your troubles, ask questions, get support and find your happy self again.
Go online, Google or search Facebook for Mom Groups in your area. They are there and if they aren’t, start your own. Chances are, you’re going to find that Mommies will be coming out of the woodwork looking for other Moms to connect with.
In 2009, when our daughter was born, I did just that. I Googled Mom Groups in and around my neighbourhood and low and behold “The Tri-Cities Moms Group” on Meetup.com, was the first one found.

I can’t tell you how much the Moms that I’ve met in this group have helped me. Not only have our kids found friends and playmates, but I have connected with some pretty fabulous ladies who I can confide in when I’m feeling my most vulnerable, but also share in laughter during the good times. Getting out and having “Me Time” for Mom’s Nights Out, going for walks or spa dates or something as simple as a coffee, really makes a difference and helps this Mama keep her sanity when the universe appears to be closing in around me.

Have you found your tribe of Mommy friends? How have they helped you through your good times and bad?

Life with boys…a whole new bucket of worms..literally! #YMCCommunity

When I was growing up, it was a house of three girls. My Mum, my sister and I.

20140523-150812-54492562.jpg

I was the “man of the house”. Doing the lawn mowing, fixing things and being the one who got the dirtiest.

Definitely a tomboy.

Tomboy

As far as living with boys, I didn’t have any experience until my late teens and by then, they had found their independence and really weren’t at home a whole lot.

Fast forward twenty years and there is a wee lad co-existing in our home.

His older sister was a handful, but I NEVER expected in a million years, what a little boy brings to the equation.

A boy is a noise with dirt on it

The noise, the aggression, the energy, the destruction.

Trouble

It’s enough to drive one to drink. Wait a minute…it has.

After a full day of a nearly 2 year old and a 4 year old going on 16, and especially if hubby is away for work, this Mama definitely needs to put her feet up and shake off the day.

Some days I feel as though the life has been completely drained from me.

Mom going crazy

If I was looking for a way to lose the baby weight that I’m still carrying around, having a little boy running around is definitely gonna do it for me! The attention being required is far greater than when our daughter was his age.

Daily I’m finding things broken, crushed, and dirty.

I think we’ll have to replace all our dishes with plastic ones, and we’ll be drinking from spill-proof travel mugs.

Do you have a little dude in your home? Do you find them more exhausting than you ever imagined?

When all you need is a little Mommy Time. #HalfmoonYogaProducts#YMCCommunity

Your day starts with the little one waking earlier than normal.

Your eldest wakes up grumpier than Mr. Fredricksen from the movie Up.

Breakfast gets burnt, you’ve run out of coffee, the dog chewed up the morning paper, then peed on it.

The kids get dropped off late at school, traffic is a bear and you spill your cup of “lunch room” coffee, that tastes like it was made with toilet water, down the front of your shirt.

At lunch, you discover the staff fridge thief has stolen your lunch and you’ve left your wallet at home.

At dinner time, the kids are fighting at the table and won’t eat a single bite of the dinner that you’ve prepared.

Bedtime is a struggle because, “Mom, I hafta pee!” and “I need a drink of water!”

Finally, the house is quiet, and you get to put your feet up and let the stresses of the day just melt away.

You have a hot bath, pull on your snuggly wuggly housecoat, make a cup of your favourite tea, and lay back on the couch and inspire your inner tranquility.

A fabulous accessory to help clear your mind and soothe your soul, is the Silk Eye Pillow from Halfmoon Yoga Products. This lovely little pillow is covered in a soft Dupioni Silk and comes scented or unscented.

When this Mama needs a little “me time” to shake off the day and centre myself, I just close my eyes and drift away into peacefulness.

30 Minutes, just for me. {Series} Week 2

30 Minute Hit

30 Minute Hit New Westminster

So here I am, just completed week 2 .

This week was a bad week for me:( Hubby was away for work and I was solo Mom for the beginning of the week. So, I didn’t make it in for a workout until Tuesday night. It was a great workout and I seriously got my sweat on! Bob was no match for me.

Bob

Then, two nights in a row of evening meetings, took away my workout nights. LAME!!

Come Friday night, my girlfriend and I head out of town for my very 1st EVER, weekend away from the kiddos! This was a much needed break for me as I have never ever had a night away from the kids since my daughter was born 4 years ago!

Needless to say, poor commitment by me this past week. But sometimes life throws a wrench in your best laid plans. I promise myself to do a better job this week and kick Bob’s butt more than once;)

Don’t forget, 30 Minute Hit is raising funds to Kick the *&%! Out Of Cancer, so please follow the link and make a donation in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.
