20th Annual BRIGHT NIGHTS in STANLEY PARK!!

The BC Professional Fire Fighter’s Burn Fund in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board is proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Bright Nights in Stanley Park. Bright Nights in Stanley Park is an annual tradition for many families in the Lower Mainland and over the past 20 years, has welcomed visitors from all around the world.

Santa’s elves are already hard at work transforming Stanley Park into a captivating and dazzling lighting display complete with music, sweet snacks, entertainment and, of course, Santa Claus himself. “It’s sure to delight kids, both young and old,” chuckles Ray Boucher, Burn Fund Vice-President and Co-Chair of the Bright Nights Committee. When asked how he and his team were able to manage the sheer volume of light display enthusiasts, Ray replied, “We want to make certain that everyone is able to enjoy this magical event, and since we’ve seen such an overwhelming show of visitors in past years, we’re excited to be extending the event this year by staying open until January 6th, this way we hope that everyone will get the chance to come down to the park, with their family and friends and help us celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bright Nights!.”

“This anniversary event celebrates the partnership between the Park Board and the Burn Fund who have worked together for 20 years to create the Bright Nights experience. We could not put on this event without the support of all our community
partners, who help bring the park to life for all to enjoy”, said Vancouver Park Board Chair, Michael Wiebe. Over 250,000 visitors attend the event annually and that number is growing. “We are exceptionally pleased with the support from the public
and our Sponsors. Over 800 fire fighters contribute more than 8,000 hours over the 3 month period of Set-Up, Operations and Tear Down. It’s a monumental undertaking of combined efforts to make this event so successful,” says Ray Boucher. “The funds
raised will make a huge difference to burn survivors and their families throughout our province.”

The monies raised through donations in the front gate bins go directly to the Burn Fund, which provides life-saving, life supporting and life enriching services to people across BC. More than 4,000 professional fire fighters around the province dedicate their time and skills to support burn survivors. They increase the public’s knowledge about fire and burn safety through Burn Awareness, Research and Prevention programs.

The Burn Fund encourages visitors to show their generosity by bringing food itemsfor the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Food bins will be on-site at the entrance gate. Most needed items include: canned meat/fish; natural peanut butter; whole wheat pasta/rice; pasta sauce; canned fruits/vegetables; 100% fruit juices; low-sugar cereals; baby food, formula & diapers. www.foodbank.bc.ca

The event is open this year from November 30, 2017-January 6, 2018. We will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25, 2017.

{{Contest}} TUTS 4pk of tickets to Oliver! – The Musical or Hairspray – The Broadway Musical

Do you have a love for musical plays?

This Summer, Theatre Under The Stars is presenting Oliver! – The Musical and Hairspray – The Broadway Musical  running on alternating evenings July 10 – August 22, 2015 at the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park.

For their 2015 season – celebrating 75 years of song-and-dance filled summer nights – TUTS promises dramatic adventures, big hair, and toe-tapping tunes that are fun for the whole family.

In Oliver! The Musical, directed by Shel Piercy and based on Charles Dickens’ iconic novel, this celebrated Broadway hit follows everyone’s favourite orphan, Oliver Twist, on a dramatic adventure through the underbelly of Victorian London. It will feature such instantly recognizable melodies as Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, I’d Do Anything, and more.

Sarah Rodgers is back again this season to direct Hairspray. The triumphant musical with huge heart takes audiences back to 1962 Baltimore, where loveable, larger-than-life heroine Tracy Turnblad has one plucky dream: to dance on the local TV program, The Corny Collins Show. When this dream comes true, and Tracy is crowned Miss Hairspray, she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity – and realizes there are more important things in life than being in the limelight.

Theatre Under The Stars has graciously provided a Family 4 pack of tickets to either Oliver! or Hairspray to be given away to one lucky Raincity Parent reader! Contest runs from July 24th – August 5th, 2015. Enter via the Rafflecopter link below. Open to residents of the Greater Vancouver area.
